30 YEARS EXPERIENCE
We are located in sunny Clearwater Beach, Florida, just a few steps away from beautiful Clearwater Beach in the Clearwater Municipal Marina. We offer trolling, bottom fishing and shark fishing offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
We offer 4 hour up to 14 hour fishing trips. From beginners to experienced anglers, we have a trip for everyone. Experience is not required! We have two family-friendly Charter Boats and children are always welcome. Both boats are US Coast Guard licensed and insured for up to 6 people in your own group. We do arrange split groups of 4 as well. Conveniently located west of Tampa Bay and Orlando, we offer some of the best year-round fishing on the West Coast of Florida.
Our fishing charters typically depart at 7am and the afternoon trips depart at 12pm, depending on our schedule.
WHAT TO KNOW FOR THE TRIP
Bring what your group will need to eat and drink for the day. There is a cooler on board filled with ice for your food and drinks or you can bring your own.
When you charter us, all fishing licenses, permits, bait, tackle, rods and ice are included.
We are equipped with modern electronics and radar.
Our boats are equipped with a restroom aboard both boats.
At the end of your fishing trip your Captain will filet and clean your catch, and then ice and bag your filets and we also have ice.
When you return from your fishing trip, your captain will display your fish on our dock for all to see...and that's when the photo session begins! Imagine the stories you will tell your family, friends, children and grandchildren! After all...without pictures, it's just another fish story!
If you plan on taking fish with you, bring a cooler and keep it in your car until you return to the dock. You may also purchase one in the marina shop.
You can have your fish mounted by Gray Taxidermy. Ask your Captain for more details.
We have fun on these boats,
So prepare for a good time!
The "Above Average" and "Above Average 2" are both 30' Island Hopper Charter Boats. Both powered with a 3126 Caterpillar diesel engine. Sporting a 12' beam makes them two of the widest boats in the marina...the wider the better for stability. A large wide open deck, which comfortably accommodates up to 6 people on each boat, provides ample seating and elbow room. Both boats have a modern head with total privacy and all modern electronics including radar.
Our Captains keep our boats very clean and sanitized daily and keep all of the equipment and gear updated. Our boats are clean and bright and ready to go with every group we have on board! We are Coast Guard licensed and insured for up to 6 passengers on each boat and have all required safety equipment on board.
Depending on the season, you will be trolling for King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda and Bonito; bottom fishing for Red Grouper, Gag Grouper, Red Snapper, Amberjack, White Grunts, Mangrove Snapper or Shark fishing.
For those that love fishing for the sport or don't want to keep all the fish, we do practice catch and release, just let Captain Rich or Captain James know.
Our Professional Crew
Captain Richard Nicajevsky has been charter fishing out of Clearwater Marina since July of 1990 and knows the waters very well. His experience, knowledge, sense of humor and reputation has made him one of Clearwater's top Charter Boat Captains.
Here's his story in a nut shell: back in July 1990, he got off of a plane from Colorado to Tampa, stepped on a charter boat in Clearwater Marina to work as a deck hand, caught a 12' Hammer Head shark, and has been "hooked" ever since.
Around here, he's known as "Rocket" and he loves what he does and it shows! How did "Rocket" come about? Well, you'll just have to come and find out for yourselves. Over the course of almost 31 years, he's become one of the finest Charter Fishing Captains on the West Coast of Florida! So come on out for a great time with Captain Rich...and catch fish! It'll be the highlight of your vacation!
Captain James Stewart moved here from Indiana in 2010, started fishing on a commercial longline boat in Madeira Beach and has been hooked ever since!
He’s been fishing our gulf waters for over 12 years and his love for fishing shows! In 2019 he also fished season 16 on the Deadliest Catch in Alaska on the Summer Bay.
James joined the Above Average Team in June 2020 and we are stronger than ever! Captain James’ favorite type of fishing is grouper and snapper fishing (bottom fishing) but does it all!!
