Above Average Experience

30 years experience on the water, Above Average Charters offers some of the best year-round fishing on the West Coast of Florida. We are located in sunny Clearwater Beach, Florida at slip 28 in the Clearwater Municipal Marina. We offer trolling, bottom fishing and shark fishing offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

We offer 4 to 12 hour fishing trips. From beginners to experienced anglers, we have a trip for everyone. Experience is not required! We are family friendly and children are always welcome. Our boat is US Coast Guard licensed and insured for up to 6 people in your own group. We do arrange split groups of 4 as well.

Island Hopper Charter Boat

The "Above Average" fleet is a 30' Island Hopper Charter Boat. Powered with a 3126 Caterpillar diesel engine, sporting a 12' beam making it one of the widest boats in the marina. We offer a large open boat deck, which comfortably accommodates up to 6 people. Equipped with a modern head & all modern electronics including radar. Our Captain also keeps our boat clean and sanitized daily.

The Catch

The Catch

Depending on the season, you will be trolling for King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda and Bonito; bottom fishing for Red Grouper, Gag Grouper, Red Snapper, Amberjack, White Grunts, Mangrove Snapper or Shark fishing.

For those that love fishing for the sport or don't want to keep all the fish, we do practice catch and release.

The Captain

Meet Above Average Captain Bob Erickson. He's a USCG (United States Coast Guard) Masters Captain, born & raised in New Jersey. He grew up fishing near shore and offshore of the Atlantic Ocean for Tuna, Fluke, striped bass and more.


Bob has always been interested in boats and fishing, has been working on fishing charters since 2010. In 2015 he graduated in Marine Service Technology. In 2020 he relocated to Clearwater Beach, Florida. Bobs spends his spare time fishing with his wife and 2 sons.
